Aims of workshop :
This workshop is intended to bring together mathematicians and theoretical
physicists interested in quantum chaos and its applications. In recent
years there has been significant progress in this field culminating in the claim that
the Bohigas-Giannoni-Schmit (BGS) conjecture - that chaotic systems have
level-statistics predicted by random matrix theory (RMT) - has been
proven. Thus it seems an ideal time to invite representatives of the
communities working on related problems to meet and exchange ideas.
Generally speaking, the aims of the workshop is to fully understand the
recently developed techniques and to use them to investigate the wider
implications of action correlations that go beyond the BGS conjecture.
More specifically:
- To adapt the techniques used in
the recent works on the BGS conjecture to other applications. Can the
methods be applied to wavefunction-statistics, transport properties, etc?
- To examine the mathematical rigor of the recent
derivations of the BGS conjecture. Are there particular models (quantum
graphs, etc) for which the proof can be made completely rigorous?
- To study situations where random matrix theory
does not apply. Can these systems be classified into new (non-RMT)
universality classes?
- To develop semi-classical approaches to Anderson (strong)
localization in both one and higher dimensions; particularly for discrete and
quantum graphs, quantum-Hall and spin-quantum-Hall networks.
