Study Skills for Success
- Be proactive and assertive. Take care of work and problems today.
- Read all assignments before lecture.
- Participate actively during class. Sit in the front half of the room, listen attentively, ask questions, state ideas.
- Take notes while reading. Most importantly, write down questions and ideas for class discussion.
- Take notes of important points and ideas presented during class or laboratory. (Notes help you remember and understand key concepts and ideas).
- Review reading and class notes daily.
- Work all of the assigned problems and homework.
- Try to solve the problem using notes and text.
- Write down all of your work on paper, circle your answer.
- Check your answer againsnt the book answer (if available).
- If you still cannot solve the problem, ask another student, tutor, and/or the instructor.
NOTE: Completing homework:
1. Helps learning,
2. Indicates your mastery of the topic.
- Study with other students. Make sure everyone understands and works each problem.
- Your instructors are good resources. Be sure to bring questions, problems, or requests to their attention during office hours or by appointment. Help them help you to learn.
- Study at a well lit desk without distractions (i.e., no TV, no music). A realistic minimum study time is 2 hours/week for each credit hour.
