Title: Riemann--Roch, the canonical embedding and Pfaffians
Abstract: I review some standard material of algebraic geometry for complex curves and compute the canonical embedding in harder cases that are usually presented. This is background for my other talk this week which will do something similar but for 3-dimensional varieties.

Title: Let the tile-installer stick to his tile
Abstract: Because they are beautiful to the naked eye, tessellations have been studied for centuries, not only by mathematicians, but also for people outside mathematics, as the well-known artisan M.C. Escher. To our days, tessellations remains a research area in mathematics. The intention of this talk is not only to introduce some different types of tessellations, but to give a small sample of the kind of theorems you can find in this research area. The knowledge assumed for this talk is basically null, so this talk should be easy to follow.
