Title: Finite input/output games, strategies, correlations, and related operator algebras.

Abstract: Over the next two lectures, I will present the basic notions around two player finite input/output games, strategies (deterministic, probabilistic, winning etc...), and the various correlation matrices that arise. We will then focus on the class of synchronous games and the relation between perfect strategies and the existence of certain tracial states on a universal associated to the game. We will follow section 9.4 thru Chapter 10 in the following notes: http://www.math.uwaterloo.ca/~vpaulsen/EntanglementAndNonlocality_LectureNotes_7.pdf

Speaker: Tom Vogel, Texas A&M University

Title: Stability of Delaunay Surface Solutions to Capillary Problems

Abstract: Capillary surfaces arise from minimizing surface energy subject to a volume constraint. Capillary problems with rotational symmetry often have rotationally symmetric surfaces of constant mean curvature (Delaunay surfaces) as stationary solutions. Using eigenvalue methods, stability of Delaunay surfaces solutions can be compared across different capillary problems. In particular, the problem of a liquid bridge between parallel planes has stability implications for bridges between solid balls and toroidal drops inside circular cylinders.

Title: Volume conjectures for quantum invariants

Abstract: Supported by numerical evidences, Chen and I conjectured that at the root of unity exp(2π i/r) instead of the usually considered root exp(π i/r), the Turaev-Viro and the Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants of a hyperbolic 3-manifold grow exponentially with growth rates respectively the hyperbolic and the complex volume of the manifold. This reveals a different asymptotic behavior of the relevant quantum invariants than that of Wittens invariants (that grow polynomially by the Asymptotic Expansion Conjecture), which may indicate a different geometric interpretation of those invariants than the SU(2) Chern-Simons gauge theory. In this talk, I will introduce the conjecture and show further supporting evidences, including recent joint works with Detcherry and Detcherry-Kalfagianni.
