Title: Some notions about classical information theory: Shannon's entropy and Fano's inequality
Abstract: ABSTRACT: We will start covering Chapter 6 of Palazuelos' Quantum Information Theory notes. We will introduce Shannon's entropy and we will discuss some of its important properties. Shannon's entropy is the expected value of the information contained in each message. We will also present Shannon's noiseless channel coding theorem which relates Shannon's entropy with the reliability of a compression scheme. We will present the concept of joint and conditional Shannon entropy and Fano's inequalities, which are important to understand the noisy channel coding theorem.
