Noncommutative Geometry Seminar

iCal  iCal

Time: 2:00PM - 2:50PM

Location: BLOC 628

Speaker: Yeong Chyuan Chung, Texas A&M University

Title: Quantitative K-Theory and its Applications

Abstract: We will describe quantitative K-theory for C*-algebras and our work in extending the theory to more general Banach algebras, in particular to L^p operator algebras. We will also discuss how the use of quantitative K-theory facilitates computation of the (ordinary) K-theory of L^p crossed products under the assumption of finite dynamic asymptotic dimension.

Groups and Dynamics Seminar

iCal  iCal

Time: 3:00PM - 4:00PM

Location: BLOC 220

Speaker: Volodymyr Nekrashevych

Title: Topological full groups of minimal Z^d actions

Abstract: I will discuss algebraic properties of topological full groups of minimal Z^d actions on the Cantor set: simplicity, generating sets. Some examples will be described: groups of interval exchange transformations, the full group of the Penrose tiling. This is a joint work with Kate Juschenko and Maxym Chornyi.

Student Working Seminar in Groups and Dynamics

iCal  iCal

Time: 4:00PM - 5:00PM

Location: BLOC 628

Speaker: Krzysztof Święcicki, Texas A&M University

Title: Group without weak expanders and no coarse embedding into Hilbert space
