Title: Closed ideals of operators between the classical sequence spaces
Abstract: It was a long-standing open problem whether for $1\leq p< q <\infty$ the spaces $\mathcal L(\ell_p,\ell_q)$ and $\mathcal L(\ell_p,c_0)$ of operators have infinitely many closed ideals. This question was answered in the last few years by various authors. In this talk we give a brief survey of this development, and then focus on the most recent achievement that shows that for $1< p< \infty$ the space $\mathcal L(\ell_p,c_0)$ has continuum many closed ideals. The latter is joint work with Dan Freeman and Thomas Schlumprecht.
