Handling Mail on Vacation or Leave

• Forward Your Mail to another mail host. To do this, create a file named .forward in your home directory. Place the address where mail is to be forwarded in a line of the file. For example:

         mynewaccount@mynewlocation.edu
  

  If you want to keep a local copy (in your Math Department account), add , \mylocalaccount to the line above. For example:

         mynewaccount@mynewlocation.edu, \mylocalaccount
  

  will both forward your mail and save a copy locally.

• Automatically Notify Senders You're on Vacation

  You can automatically reply to your mail senders to tell them you're unavailable. The vacation program is used for this. Run vacation from one of the Department Solaris servers (fourier, laplace). See the vacation man page for more details.

• Read Your Mail From the Road
  • If you have access to a web browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer), you can visit the Math Department Mail Client web page:

    http://mail.math.tamu.edu.

    This page provides the Netscape Messenger Express web-based mail reader. Login with your Department user-name and password. You will be able to read your "in-box" messages.
