Provides administrative support to the teaching operations office in the Department of Mathematics. Duties and responsibilities include the coordination of databases, textbooks, common exams and diagnostic exams, plus assisting the Associate Department Head with a variety of tasks requiring advanced computing skills.
Assist the Associate Department Head and Administrative Coordinator with a variety of tasks, requiring advanced computing skills, related to the teaching function of the department. These activities include: assisting in the coordination of departmental activities; creating, maintaining and updating databases and spreadsheets, document student credit hour history, Q-drop data, and annual enrollment data. Responsible for the creation, maintenance, collection of data and the dissemination of reports electronically or by paper for the following databases: migrating SIMS records of mathematics students into local mySQL databases, algebra diagnostic database, distance learning student database, regent's fellowship tracking database, textbook database, key database, and multiple conference registration databases. These involve creating raw mySQL databases, creating web interfaces using PHP scripts, creating Microsoft Access interfaces, developing conversion tools, such as creating Microsoft Excel spreadsheets in Linux. Oversee the tabulation and analysis of the data from the algebra diagnostic exam and prepares and reports the results which are displayed in spreadsheet format. Diagnostic exams are administered to collect data on the mathematical preparedness of our incoming freshman. The exams are given to all students enrolled in 100-level mathematics courses as well as MATH 365, involving approximately 8,500 students. These tasks require advanced computing, information technology and database skills.
Responsible for creating and updating more than 100 course home pages, dynamically updating help session schedules and week in review schedules. Creating web interfaces using PHP scripts for the collection of information electronically received from faculty, students, and conference participants, and generating reports. Examples of web interfaces include the M.S. and Ph.D. committee request, faculty teaching request, undergraduate student survey, conference registration forms, the student early warning system, online force request form, and the distance learning student information request form.
Textbook Coordinator: Responsible for creating and maintaining the textbook request web interface and database. The textbook request involves collecting data online from faculty, compiling the data, and disseminating electronic reports for the department, local bookstores and to the textbook representatives to place desktop copy orders. Also responsible for the creation of, updating, and maintaining the textbook library database of faculty desktop copies; interface with all local bookstores and create/update textbook information on course web pages. Oversees the management of departmental teaching equipment and coordinate faculty requests for classroom equipment, such as graphing calculators and view screens.
Common Exam Coordinator: Responsible for the organization of departmental common exams; schedules rooms for evening exams; works directly with course coordinators and relays communications to faculty and teaching assistants concerning their responsibilities with the process; oversees the duplication, distribution and security of the exams; compiles a spreadsheet analysis of exam results and posts copies and solutions of previous common exams to course web pages.
Assist Blocker faculty with various teaching, research and service activities. Examples of duties and responsibilities include: assistance with conference and workshop planning and organization; coordinate the purchase of site license software through SELL (Student Evaluation Lending Library); assist with miscellaneous correspondence and mail outs. Maintain and update departmental key database and distribute department keys for Blocker offices and computer laboratories.
