Editorial Assistant  - Kelly Minnis

Summary

Provides administrative support to department faculty that hold editorial appointments with professional mathematical journals.

Duties

Provides administrative support to department faculty members who hold editorial appointments. These currently include: Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, Journal of Approximation Theory, Advances in Computational Mathematics, American Mathematics Monthly, and Groups, Geometry, and Dynamics.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to correspondence, reminder schedules, maintaining journal databases, copy editing columns and book length manuscripts, filing, and creating and updating web pages related to the journals.

Act as back-up for front office activities.

Must possess advanced writing skills to compose letters, memos and other miscellaneous correspondence. Must possess proofreading skills and have extensive knowledge of grammar and punctuation. Must be proficient in the use of word processing, databases, electronic communications, web related technology, and some technical typing skills. Must possess advanced knowledge of spreadsheet software packages with the ability to design, create and utilize complex spreadsheets which will be vital in tracking activity on manuscripts currently in process. Familiarity with basic accounting principles/practices also required.

This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, accurate attention to detail, excellent organization skills, time management skills, and the ability to maintain absolute confidentiality in all matters. Must effectively communicate, in a highly professional manner, with faculty, administrators, researchers, staff, outside reviewers, national and international university faculty and research mathematicians from outside the TAMU community.

Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.

From the Administrative Coordinator with periodic review through normal auditing.

No direct supervision given.

Education

Required:
Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in business or liberal arts.

Experience

Required:
Three years experience in office administration. Some editorial experience.
