Summary

The Senior Systems Analyst is responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of the Department of Mathematics computing system environment.

Duties

Manages aspects of systems integration, including determination of need, product evaluation, cost analysis, and writing purchase/bid specifications for hardware and software; supplies specifications for new facilities; maintains, enhances, and reviews security practices; manages computer account; installs new hardware; installs and maintains system software; maintains status of support contracts; monitors performance/reliability and tuning; builds, installs, and tests public domain software; responsible for programming, to include Unix system-level programming, administrative shell-scripts, parallel programming, graphics programming, numerical algorithms and database applications; creates format for newsletters and WWW documents; supports department workstations; oversees the work of the Systems Analysts and Programming Assistant; provides end-user interaction, responds to questions; participates in local user's groups.

Received:
General instruction from the Department Head.
Given:
Computing staff, consisting of Systems Analysts, Programming Assistant, and student technicians.

Education

Required:
Master's degree in computer related field.
Preferred:
Ph.D in scientific field.

Experience

Required:
1 year experience in the administration of Unix systems on a departmental scale. Strong verbal and written skills.
Preferred:
Two years in UNIX administration and programming.
