ONLINE MATHEMATICS HOMEWORK

ANNOUNCEMENTS

SEPT 29, 2009 - 3:30 PM
If you are using a Mac computer and are having problems with the math palette. Please view this document for help.

SEPT 24, 2009 - 8:00 AM
For the next two to three weeks, the WebAssign Server will continue to be sluggish and it is possible that you may not be able to connect to their servers for extended periods, especially during the peak hours of 7pm to 10pm. If you experience problems connecting to or staying on the server, we recommend that you log off the servers until peak hours are over. Additionally, we recommend you print a hard copy of your homework assignment when you successfully logon so you can do your homework during the times that WebAssign is inaccessible. We have also put into place the following three strategies to try and help the next few weeks go more smoothly.

  1. Enable Automatic Extensions - For all classes, we have enabled the automatic extension feature.  This allows students to request a no penalty extension on an assignment and WebAssign will automatically grant the extension, thus extending the due date for the individual student by two days.  Each student will have one extension request per assignment and they will be given 24 hours after the original due date to request the extension.  I am hoping this will help alleviate the anxiety of students who are having server problems in the hours before the due date. Here is how you get the automatic extension:
    • Look below the list of assignments for a link that says "past assignments". Click on this link. Below the assignment for which you want an extention there is a link that says "Extension Request". Click on this link then accept the extension
  2. Post Practice Assignments - A link to the course in which you are enrolled can be found below. When you click on the link you will find links to hard copies of the practice assignments for your course. We have made these available to you in the event you cannot log onto the WebAssign servers, you can at least still solve the practice problems.
  3. New Times in Which Assignments are Due - Pay close attention to the times that assignments are due. For most classes, we adjusted the time the assignments are due to encourage you to do your homework before the rush of traffic on WebAssign's servers.

Thanks for your patience. We know it is frustrating, and we will continue to try to make this process as smooth as possible. If you need assistance, please fill out the student help request form above. We will do our best to answer your requests promptly.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SOFTWARE:
You must have the most recent version of Flashplayer and Java loaded on your computer for WebAssign to work properly. The most recent version of Flash can be downloaded from www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer and the most recent version of Java can be downloaded from http://java.com. The recommended browser for WebAssign is Firefox, which is available free from http://www.mozilla.org.

If you are taking a Precalculus, Finite Math, or Calculus course at Texas A&M, you will have a required online homework component in your math class. These assignments are generally out of class assignments that are delivered via a web-based product called WebAssign, which can be accessed from any computer that has an internet connection. The student help section below gives additional resources for using online homework at TAMU.

We suggest you view all the help pages before you begin any online assignments to help you get familiar with the online homework procedures at TAMU and to help make the online homework experience a pleasant and positive one. If you need help, you can fill out the Student Help Request Form (see link near the top of this webpage), see Jenn Whitfield in Blocker 629A, or contact your instructor.
