SMaRT Camp
Summer Mathematics Research Training High School Camp
June 10 (arrival) - 23 (departure), 2012
Miscellaneous Information
Information on this page will be updated periodically, so watch for updates.
Travel
It is IMPORTANT that all accepted participants arrive on
June 10th and depart on June 23rd. No arrival later
than June 10th and departure before June 23rd should be planned. If the student is flying,
the arrival should be to the College Station, TX airport (Easterwood Airport, the airport
code CLL). The arrival and departure information will be collected from all participating students and
we will meet them at the airport on arrival and take them there
for the departure. Our airport is small and one cannot get lost. Please look for a person with
thhe SMaRT camp sign.
Those arriving by car will be allowed to park on the
Parking Lot 32 near the Haas Hall on Sunday June 10th and Saturday June 23rd.
To get to the parking lot, turn to Houston from the University Drive and go forward a hundred yards.
The parking lot will be on your right and McFadden Hall will be the 2nd building (fololowing the same direction) from the
lot.
Dorm To be announced
Registration and check in
will be administered throughout June 10th (starting 10am) on the first floor of the dorm.
Clothing
In most cases, warm weather clothing will be appropriate. Some students might enjoy wearing a sweater in air-conditioned
buildings. An umbrella or other rain gear may be helpful.
Summer weather in Texas might get very hot, so having hats, sunglasses, and
sunscreen is highly advisable.
Laundry
Free laundry facilities are available in the dorm. Students need to buy (or bring)
their own detergent.
Rooms
Students will be staying in a co-ed dorm
on campus. It is expected that the rooms will be equipped with bathrooms
and airconditioning. Daily linen and towel service, as well as pillows and blankets, will be provided. Students
need to bring toothpaste, toothbrush, bath soap, personal hygiene items
Phone
Rooms are not equipped with phones. Although some public phones are available, having
cellular phones is advisable.
Mail
US Mail to all participants should be addressed as follows:
Participant's Name
c/o SMaRT camp
Mathematics Department
Texas A&M University
College Station, TX 77843-3368
Optional items
Students might like to bring personal items, e.g. a
portable musical instrument, camera, board game, playing cards, frisbees.
However, no skateboards, video games, computers, or televisions are permitted.
Cellular phones are advisable.
Supervision
Undergraduate counselors will live in the dorm with the
students. Counselors and faculty will be present at all of the program's
activities. However, students will enjoy significant freedom during the
rest of the day, so a sufficient level of maturity on their part is assumed. A
form releasing SMaRT camp and Texas A&M from any liability will need to be
signed by the parents.
Cash
It is recommended that students
have a small amount of cash for incidentals during they travel and stay on
campus (e.g., $15 ticket for a baseball game) .
Curfew
A curfew will be imposed on students from 10pm till 6am.
Medical treatment
The SMaRT camp does not provide any medical
insurance. It is thus required that students have medical insurance. The corresponding
waiver is signed by all participants and their parents/legal guardians. Arrangements
have been made with the College Station Medical Center for medical services, should
medical treatment be necessary. Students are responsible for the costs of treatment
involved.
