Texas A&M University

About Math Awareness Month
Mathematics Awareness Month is sponsored each year by the
American Mathematical Society, the
American Statistical
Association, the Mathematical
Association of America, and the Society for Industrial and Applied
Mathematics to recognize the importance of mathematics. In year
2006 the theme of the Awareness Month is Mathematics and Internet Security .
Planned activities:
- Integral Bee On Monday, April 3,
at 7:15 PM, in Blocker 158, the Math Dept, Pi Mu Epsilon and
Maplesoft will sponsor an Integral Bee; a competition to determine
who can compute integrals fastest. All integrals are at the level
of Math 152/172.
Prizes will be awarded in 3 categories: undergrads in Math
152/172, undergrads above Math 152/172 and grad students or
faculty. Prizes will consist of 2 copies of Maple 10 and several
Maple T-shirts including the infamous Maple Cheat Shirts. These
have Tables of Trig Identities and Integrals on the front and back.
(They may not be worn to exams!)
Rules will be posted on the Math Dept bulletin board outside
Blocker 158 and in various other places in Blocker, Milner and
Heldenfelds.
- Math Mini Fair (April
8th 9:30 am - 1:45 pm, Blocker Bld., details to be
updated):
- Registration, 9:30. Opening, 10:00, Room 120.
- Problem solving contest for students of all grades, 9:30 -
12:45. Room 120.
- Exhibits, games and other activities, 9:30 - 12:45. Rooms 114,
123, 125
- Final round of the 2005/2006 Texas
Math Talent Search. 9:00 - 11:00 am, Room 112.
- Presentations by math professors, 11:00 - 11:30 am and 12:45 -
1:15 pm.
- Pizza lunch 12:00 - 12:45 pm.
- Prizes for the problem contest and Math Talent Search, 1:15 -
1:45 pm. Room 120

All Mini Fair activities are taking place in Blocker Building of
Texas A&M University, rooms 120, 123, 124, 125 and 114. Here is
