Abstract

Speaker: Laura Matusevich, Texas A&M University

Title: Polytopes, triangulations, toric varieties and discriminants.

Abstract:

In this tutorial-type talk, I will define all the words in the title and explain one of my favorite theorems (due to Gelfand, Kapranov and Zelevinsky), that provides a connection between them, namely "The Newton polytope of the principal A-determinant is the secondary polytope of A."
