Abstract

I will briefly introduce QCD and the numerical model thereof coming from Wilson's discretization on a lattice. Then, I will present the difficulties encountered in attempting to invert the discretized Dirac operator as part of a Monte Carlo evaluation of the QCD Path Integral. I will also review the progress made over the past several decades in developing solvers for the Dirac inversion problem and then present a novel multi-scale method which for the first time eliminates the critical slowing down that all previous local algorithms exhibit as the relative quark mass approaches its physical value. This is a joint work with James Brannick.
