Texas Geometry and Topology Conference
Serving the Mathematical Community Since 1989
Mission Statement
The Texas Geometry and Topology Conference is dedicated
to the enhancement of both the educational and the research atmosphere
of the community of geometers and topologists in Texas and surrounding
states. The Conference has three specific goals:
-
The Conference is committed to bring researchers
of national and international stature to the region to discuss their research
and to interact with mathematicians from Texas and surrounding states.
-
The Conference makes it possible for the community
of geometers and topologists from Texas and surrounding states (a huge
geographic region) to meet and share mathematics on a regular basis, which
both stimulates individual research and generates productive cooperative
efforts between schools.
-
The Conference is dedicated to the development of
graduate students and young faculty in geometry and topology.
Upcoming and Recent Conferences
Conference History
Founded in 1989, the semiannual Texas Geometry and
Topology Conference has become an institution for mathematicians in the
Southwest. The Conference has been held spring and fall since its founding,
a total of 31 times. The Conference is partially supported under a grant
from the
National Science Foundation.
Since inception, the TGTC has been organized and supported through a consortium
of four universities: University of
Texas, Austin,
Texas A&M University,
Rice
University, and
University of Houston.
In recent years, Texas
Christian University and
Texas
Tech University have joined in hosting the conference.
The original Texas Geometry and Topology Conference
confined itself primarily to Texas universities and attracted about 40
participants. Attendance at subsequent conferences has grown steadily and
substantially. In 1991, the scope of the Conference was permanently expanded
to include essentially all universities and colleges in Texas, Arkansas,
Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Participants from each of these states
regularly come to the Conference. Since 1994, fall conferences have been
national events, attracting participants from around the country.
