Abstract

Title: Free probability theory and non-crossing partitions

Abstract: In the same way that classical probability theory admits a combinatorial description in terms of all partitions of sets, free probability theory is related to so-called non-crossing partitions. I will present an introduction to the lattice of non-crossing partitions and to the description of free probability in terms of multiplicative functions on this lattice.
