Title: Combinatorics in Classical Weyl Groups

Abstract:

When flowers blossom, we enjoy watching them for their beautiful colors as well as their fascinating shapes. If we exam their shapes carefully, we may find all kinds of symmetries. Further, we find many aspects of symmetry with defects that are called broken symmetry, by physicists. This talk is about symmetry and broken symmetry in mathematics. We are really amazed to find that the beauty of symmetry is greatly enriched by broken symmetry. Partially because of that, we enjoy watching our flowers everyday without boredom. This talk is about the combinatorics of symmetry and broken symmetry in classical Weyl groups of semi-simple Lie groups. We will emphasis the connection between the combinatorics and their corresponding geometry.
