Abstract

A numerical algorithm is described to simulate MHD flows in heterogeneous domains using finite elements and Fourier expansions in three space dimensions. The method is illustrated on various physical situations modeling recent dynamo experiments like the VKS experiment (in Orsay, France) in a cylinder and the PERM experiment (in Perm, Russia) in a torus. A non-linear dynamo, based on the Taylor–Couette flow, is also presented.
