This talk will give an overview on the idea of indirect multiple shooting for optimization problems which are constrained by partial differential equations.
Multiple shooting for ODE constrained optimization problems is state of the art, whereas the idea of extending the approach to PDE constrained optimization is rather new. The talk will give a brief introduction on the general idea of multiple shooting and will point out the problems that occur in the context of PDEs. Possible approaches and solutions shall be discussed as well as the idea of goal oriented a posteriori error estimation for the multiple shooting approach.
