Title: A Multilevel Hierarchical Preconditioner for Thin Solids
Time: 4:00pm, Wednesday, October 16, 1996
Place: 503 Blocker

Abstract:

In this talk, a preconditioner for the finite element analysis of linearized elastostatics will be presented. The discussion will focus on the implemetation of the algebraic multilevel preconditioning methods[1] which have been tailored to suit problems of thin solids. Following the preconditioner definitions, various numerical examples will be presented. In particular, condition numbers will be presented for beam and plate problems in which there are skewed elements, large element span ratios, and orthtropic material properties.
