Winners for 2003 The John B. Beckham Award in Science went to Ashli Moore and Jennifer Novak. Moore is a senior majoring in both biology and psychology and is in the University Undergraduate Research Fellows Program. Novak is a senior mathematics major and has completed research projects in both math and biology, one being an NSF-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates. The John B. Beckham Award in Science was established in 1983 by friends and family of former Dean John Beckham in recognition of and appreciation for his 36 years of dedicated service to Texas A&M University in teaching, counseling and administration. It is the highest award in the College of Science and goes to the student or students who best exemplify characteristics of achievement, integrity and leadership in their academic and extracurricular activities. "These students demonstrate what the John B. Beckham Award is all about," said Tim Scott, associate dean for undergraduate programs. "They have worked hard and proven themselves by earning excellent grades, participating in research projects and conferences, and by being active in the university community at large."
In fall 2002 Leigh Cobbs was one of only two seniors in the College of Science to receive the Beckham Award. This award, named after a former Dean of the College of Science, is presented to those graduating seniors in the College who exemplify the highest standards of academic excellence. The award was presented to Leigh by Dr. Ken Poenisch, Asso. Dean for Student Affairs in the College of Science. The award consists of a bronze medallion and cash. In fall 2001 Cody Patterson was the College of Science recipient of the John R. Beckham Award. This award, named after a former Dean of the College of Science, is presented to those graduating seniors in the College who exemplify the highest standards of academic excellence. The award was presented to Cody by Dr. Ken Poenisch, Asso. Dean for Student Affairs in the College of Science. The award consists of a bronze medallion and cash.
