Minor in Mathematics (Students entering prior to Fall 2016)

Getting a Minor in Mathematics is Easy!

Non-math majors can obtain a minor in mathematics by meeting the following requirements:

  1. 4 credits: Math 151, or 171, or their equivalent
  2. 4 credits: Math 152, or 172, or their equivalent
  3. 6 credits: to be selected from Math 220, Math 323, or 300 - 400 level Mathematics courses (MUST be taken at A&M).
    NOTE A: Math 365, 366, 367, 368, 403, and 485 will NOT satisfy the math minor.
NOTE B: Only one of Math 323, 304, 309, or 311 can be taken to satisfy the minor, due to the course content.
  4. 3 credits: a 400 level Mathematics course (MUST be taken at A&M).
  5. Earn a C or better in each course. TOTAL: 17 hours

None of Math 131, 141, 142, 365, 366, 367, 368, 403, or 485 may be used to satisfy requirements 1 through 4 above. Math 485 will receive approval only under exceptional circumstances.

NOTE 1: The 9 hours of upper-level courses MUST be taken at Texas A&M University.
NOTE 2: Only one of Math 323, 304, 309, or 311 can be taken to satisfy the minor, due to the course content.

Students wishing to earn a minor in mathematics do not need to visit the Mathematics Department to do so. They should see their advisor, and inform them of their intention to earn a minor in mathematics, and to have that information entered into COMPASS.

The department also wants to point out to students who are majoring in engineering or one of the sciences that it might not take more than another 18 to 24 hours to get a double major in mathematics. If that is of interest to you, contact Mathematics Undergraduate Program Office.
