- Fish Daddy's: My favorite is the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail and the
Shrimp Po' Boy. My favorite story: The weekend before Muster lots of
family arrived and went with us to the Aggie Baseball games, and one
night we went to Fish Daddy's. As Tracy walked in, she commented,
jokingly, she can't go to any restaurant in College Station, without a
former student of mine saying "Hi, Mrs. Drost", or a former cadet
greeting my husband with "HOWDY, Col. Drost". Dining there that night
were the students from the Muster committee who have worked so closely
with Gary and I, helping to answer questions about Muster and the
Reflections display. They also offered to get Jen's name on the list in
IRAQ if her brother was deployed April 21st. Luckily he was able to be
here for Muster, and yes, Tracy broke out laughing when the Muster
committee spoke to us.
- Chili's: My favorite is the Quesadilla Explosion! My favorite
story: My husband and I have a favorite booth we sit at in Chili's
that's "our spot". For Christmas last year, I gave Gary a Chili's gift
card, which you can order online and insert your own favorite photo,
and saying. I put the photo on his card, of the two of us sitting in
front of the Christmas tree, in 1972, when he proposed!
- On the Border: My favorite is Live Queso! You have to try this.
It's no longer on the menu, but you can order it anyway. I do all the
time. Ask for: "Live Queso, with fajita chicken, pico, chopped avacado,
carrots and jalapenos, and sour cream." I leave off the sour cream, but
it used to come with it when this dish was on their menu a long time
ago. Ask for flour tortillas on the side, and its a feast for two, or a
great lunch with leftovers for later!
Now my favorite story: It takes awhile for the Endowed Scholarship
Program to accumulate funds for the scholarships to begin, and after
talking with our son and daughter, we decided to present, on our own,
the first Jennifer Lynn Drost Memorial Scholarship to a very deserving
young lady, Leslie Foster, who is in her last year of nursing school at
Blinn College. The photo was taken on Tues, May 19, '09, in front of
the fireplace at On The Border where we surprised Leslie with the
scholarship. We asked her mom, Sherry Kovar, and grandmother, Mary
Bell, to stop by for a surprise. Thanks, On the Border for helping us
celebrate this inaugural event in style!
