• ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
• Initiated Budget Information Committee, a new Senate standing committee (1993-1994)
• Initiated and shepherded to passage by the Faculty Senate a resolution to have a pedestrian underpass built under Wellborn Road at Old Main (1995); this underpass is now in the plans for reconstruction by TXDOT of Wellborn Road and should be before the Board of Regents for approval in the early part of 1998.
• Initiated and oversaw Frequently Asked Questions project, involving setting up six University-wide committees, which wrote answers to questions frequently asked by the general public, and chairing the committee of chairs of these committees (1996-8). The Senate is expected to authorize publication of these papers in a few weeks.
• Initiated, shepherded through the Senate, and continued to press for an e-mail emergency notification system, to send an e-mail message to every faculty and staff member at the time of an emergency, so that the entire campus can be quickly informed of dangerous situations (train wrecks on the railroad through campus, overturned trucks carrying hazardous chemicals, major storms coming toward the campus, etc.). The President announced in December, 1996, that he is funding this system.

This committee completed a rewrite of the University rules (accepted by President Bowen in summer, 1997) and recommended changes in the System policy.
