Bachelor party (May 2005)
Tradition is: before your wedding, you have to go on a
bachelor party. If this would have been the usual bachelor
party, I wouldn't be able to show pictures. But somehow going
for a hiking weekend seemed more appealing, so we drove to one
of the state parks northwest of Austin to spend two days and
two nights at a primitive camp site: no water, no fire (ah
well), no toilets or showers. Just brush, grass, tents,
mosquitos and other critters, and a bunch of sweaty men.
So here's the cast, with all the equipment we carried a mile
and a half from the parking lot to the camp site: from left to
right Rob, Jeff, Matt, Amit, Darren, with the author behind the
lens:
Saturday was hot (well, it was Texas summer, after all), so we
went on a walk to a little river. It was supposed to be 4 or
so miles away, but we must have taken a few wrong turns so it
took us some two hours cutting through brush and
underwood. But we made it to the waterhole for a little swim:
The way back had some Texas wildlife:
Mornings during camping trip see fried bacon and an inspection
of several dozen chigger
bites (those are nasty nasty nasty critters; all of us had
plenty of their bites all over out bodies, and it takes 2-3
weeks before they stop itching real bad):
