Honeymoon in Spain II (August 2005)
After Malaga and Granada, we flew over to Barcelona. This is
the exact opposite, since it's one of those modern cities that
are completely cosmopolitan. I think I could live there :-)
Among the things worth seeing there is the Park Guell, a park
designed by the early 20th century artist Gaudi in his usual
playful style. Here are two pictures taken there:
The other thing is Sagrada Familia, a church also based on
designs by Gaudi, and under construction for about 100 years
already. The towers (in different styles) on both ends are
mostly finished, the ones on one end only recently, as is the
entry portal:
Of the rest of the church, much is still missing, though. For
example, most of the roof isn't there. Since it is all
financed only through donations, one can imagine that there
will be construction going on for decades to come.
Also in Barcelona, we found a wonderful market for everything
from fruit to seafood to skinned sheep heads and pig feet. You
may be spared the latter, but the fruit stands were too
colorful to not show:
