Math 150 Online Homework Information

Homework assignments will be taken online through CengageNOW at www.ilrn.com.

You will need to register for CengageNOW online. For registration instructions, go to www.math.tamu.edu/~epstein/eHW/. Click on the link for Math 150. If you have not used this system before (which is most of you), click the link for New Users. If you happen to have used the system before, click the link for Returning users. Follow the directions to enroll.

You will need a course key to enroll. The course key is given on the registration instructions page as well as below. Please make sure to use the key for the section you are in.

What to do next:

• After registering, log in and complete the assignment titled "CengageNOW Fall 2008". This is an introductory assignment to help you become familiar with the system and other specifics regarding homework. It is NOT for a grade, but you will not be able to access the first actual homework assignment until you have taken this.
• Next, go through the Equation Editor Tutorial. This is essential so that you understand how to type in mathematical expressions in the system.
• Third, take the Math 150 Bonus Quiz 1. This is an opportunity for you to earn bonus points at the beginning of the semester. You can take this bonus quiz twice, and you have two hours for each of your attempts. The number of bonus points you earn will be the higher number of questions you get right from the two takes. The settings for this bonus quiz are different than the settings for your normal homework assignments. Read the General Homework Guidelines below.

• You will have 3 tries for each homework assignment. When you are ready to submit an attempt, click the Submit Assignment for Grading button. Again, you may do this up to 3 times.
• Each time you submit a homework attempt for grading, the system will grade what you've done. You do not have to answer the questions you got correct again on your next try.
• On each new take, the numbers in the problems that you missed will change.
• There is a time limit of 3 hours on each attempt. So make sure you have enough time to complete an attempt when you sit down to do the homework.
• Homework assignments are due before 11:55pm on the due date. No late work is accepted. Make sure you don't wait until the last minute, especially on the first assignment, since you will still be getting used to the system. If your computer crashes at 11:50pm, this is not a valid excuse. Please start early.

• After you submit a take, you will see options to view your results or to print out the assignment. By printing out the assignment, you can work on the problems you missed and see why you missed them.
• If you leave your computer idle for a length of time, the system will automatically submit your attempt. So don't leave your computer once you've started an attempt. Also, don't click the Back button and don't exit your browser in the middle of an attempt. This will also submit a take.
• If your computer briefly loses its connection to the Internet, you have a few minutes to log back in and resume the assignment before it submits a take.
• If you do not see an assignment available to take on the Home screen when you log in, click the Assignment tab. Under the Assignment tab, make sure you choose "Show All Assignments" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Otherwise you will not be able to see the assignments you've already completed.
• If you want to view and/or print an assignment after the due date, click "View" next to the assignment under the assignment tab.
