The vacation program

A variation on mail forwarding is automatic mail answering. If you are going to be away for an extended period, you can run the vacation program on a Unix system. The program will prompt you to record a message along the lines of: "This is Bernie. My computer received your mail, but I won't be reading it until I return from Mars." Until you delete it, this message will be sent to anyone who sends you electronic mail, so your correspondents will know that you are not ignoring them. For more details, read the manual page via the Unix command "man vacation".
