What is Maple?

Maple is a system for doing mathematics on the computer. Maple can perform numerical computations, manipulate symbolic expressions, and plot graphs. Maple thus realizes the tenet of the "reform calculus" movement that every problem should be examined from three points of view: analytical, geometrical, and numerical. The latest version, Maple 7, also incorporates some word-processing capabilities. The main competitor of Maple is Mathematica.
