- The TAMU Freshman-Sophomore Math Contest is a contest open to all regularly enrolled undergraduate students at TAMU who are in their first or second year of University studies. Students whose AP course credits, or summer credits, or heavy regular schedules, have advanced them to "junior" level on the books of the University, even though they have not yet completed two years of studies, are eligible to compete in this contest.
Calculators, laptops, cell-phones, and the like are not allowed during the competition. Pencils and paper will be provided. This year (2012), the contest will be held in Milner, 7:30-9:30 PM, Thursday April 12.
Problems are based on materials studied in engineering calculus 151, 152, 251, and differential equations 308. The contest is not just another exam, though. Problems are less typecast, they tend to be more difficult, and scores need not be anywhere near perfection to win a prize.
There are six guaranteed prizes, ranging from $150 to $50, for first-sixth place, and there may be some number of "honorable mention" awards.
