Completed Projects

In the projects shown, we have discussed the mathematics and then shown step-by-step how to construct and make the computations. At each step an illustration is given, as necessary.

  1. Is that shape a circle?  Just a little algebra that shows the value of changing the center of the circle.
  2. What is the angle of the stairway?   You need a little trigonometry here. But asking for just the slope of the stairway avoids the trig.
  3. Find the area of the polygon.   Here's a nifty formula for finding the area of any polygon.

  4. What about those golden arches?  Are they really parabolas?

  5. The circle - redux.   More circular reasoning. What to do when there is less information available.
  6. The spiral.   What is a spiral and what kinds of spirals are there? Indeed, spirals are everywhere.
