Multiscale methods for partial differential equations

Synopsis: The course will cover
analytical and numerical techniques for
multiscale problems.
Homogenization methods and their applications
to numerical
simulations of multiscale problems will be discussed.
Various
finite element/volume based numerical homogenization/multiscale
methods
as well as multiscale numerical methods for problems
without scale separation
will be covered in this
course.
Prerequisite: Instructor's approval
Grading:
Grades will be based on homework and projects
Handouts will be distributed. We will be using also the notes of Multiscale Methods: Averaging and Homogenization (Texts in Applied Mathematics) (Hardcover) by GA Pavliotis (Author), AM Stuart (Author) (this book will be delivered to the bookstore sometime soon).
