Math 311-102 — Test 1 Review

General Information. Test 1 will be on Monday, 6/12/06. Please bring an 8½×11 bluebook. To get some idea of what the test will be like I am releasing the tests from Fall 2004 and from Spring 2005. Be aware that these cover a somewhat different selection of topics and are definitely not the same as what your test will be.

Extra office hours. I will have extra office hours on Monday, from 10-11.

Material covered.

Calculators. You may use calculators to do arithmetic, although you will not need them. You may not use any calculator that has the capability of doing linear algebra or storing programs or other material.

Other devices. You may not use cell phones, computers, or any other device capable or storing, sending, or recieving information.

Notation. You should know the notation that we have have used for row reduction, matrices, projections, rank, linear transformations, various vector spaces, etc.

Structure. There will be 7 to 10 questions, some with multiple parts. The problems will be similar to ones done for homework, as examples in class, in the text, or in my notes.
