Math 311-101 — Final Exam Review

General Information. The Final Exam will be on Monday, 6/30/08, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. Please bring an 8½×11 bluebook. To get some idea of what the test will be like I am releasing the final exam for Fall 2004. Be aware that this test covers a somewhat different selection of topics and is definitely not the same as what your test will be. In particular, the test did not cover material from chapter 9.

Extra office hours. I will have extra office hours on Friday, 27 June, from 12-2:30 pm.

Material covered.

Calculators. You may use calculators to do arithmetic, although you will not need them. You may not use any calculator that has the capability of doing linear algebra or storing programs or other material.

Other devices. You may not use cell phones, computers, or any other device capable or storing, sending, or receiving information.

Notation. You should know the notation that we have have used for row reduction, matrices, projections, rank, linear transformations, various vector spaces, etc.

Structure. There will be 7 to 10 questions, some with multiple parts. The problems will be similar to ones done for homework, as examples in class, in the text, or in my notes. About 50% of the test will be over new material — Fourier series (§3.7B, examples 6 and 7; for more examples, see §14.8B), Gram-Schmidt process, and vector calculus.

Supplementary problems. For the new material, here are some more problems to at least look at.
