Winter 2019 I am teaching
Math 220: Foundations of Mathematics and
Math 648: Computational Algebraic Geometry.
A version of the second will be offered also as a
distance reading class.
Interview
TAMU student Mohammed Haque interviewed me and uploaded a video of that interview (the link is above).
New Journal
There is a new journal in Algebraic Combinatorics.
This is intended to supplant
Springer's Journal of Algebraic Combinatorics.
Its interim EditorsinChief are Satoshi Murai and Victor Reiner.
It adheres to the principles of Fair Open Access.
For Potential Students:
I am always looking for students interested in working with me.
Feel free to come and talk with me, look at the resources on these pages,
including this information page.
Research
Interests:
Numerical algebraic geometry, applications of algebraic geometry, real algebraic geometry,
algebraic combinatorics, Hopf Algebras, Discrete and Computational Geometry, tropical
geometry.
Letters of Recommendation
I am willing to write letters for deserving candidates, but please read
this before asking me for a letter.
Eschew Elsevier!
Two new(er) lows:
Elsevier
is now suing authors, and
Elsevier
sues ETH Zürich for distributing articles.
Join the Elsevier
Boycott.
Older reasons to avoid Elsevier.
Elsevier
has published fake Journals,
more,
and
others that engage in unacceptable
editorial practices.
More details.

blog

I am one of the corresponding editors for the new SIAM Journal on Applied Algebra and Geometry.
I am an Associate Editor for the American Mathematical Monthly.

My terms as associate editor for the SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, the
Canadian Journal of Mathematics, and the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin, ended in December 2015.

I am a former member of the
American Institute of Mathematics
open textbooks initiative
editorial board, and a suporter of their work.
