The Math Club will be holding its next meeeting on *Tuesday October 19th at

Our speaker will be *Dr. Frank Sottile*.

Title *Cardano and the Cubic*

Abstract: You all know the quadratic formula for the solutions to a
quadratic
equation.  What you may not know is that there is a formula for the
solutions to a cubic equation (and also for a quartic equation), due
to the Italian mathematicians Tartaglia, Cardano, and Ferraro.  In this
activity we will work to solve the cubic equation and discuss formulas
for solutions to equations.

There will be refreshments provided, and the meeting will satisfy credit
for MATH 170.

While we may not mandate it, we do request that every attendee wear a mask
in order to protect your fellow Aggies and show selfless service.

You may have noticed that we have moved our meetings from Thursdays to
Tuesdays. This was to avoid a conflict with the Aggie Actuaries meetings.
We will now be holding Math Club meetings every other week on Tuesdays.
