Practice problem for section 6.2. There are problems like this on the on-line homework.
A bakery sold apple, blueberry and cherry pie. Draw a 3-circle Venn diagram and label each region with a letter as done in class. Write an equation for each statement below.
60 people bought one or more kinds of pie.
16 people bought cherry and at least one other kind.
10 bought only apple.
20 people bought exactly 2 kinds of pie.
7 people bought apple and blueberry but did not buy cherry.
29 people did not buy cherry.
11 people bought blueberry and cherry. (This includes those who bought all 3 kinds. Most problems will not give this fact. Remember: If it does not say "only", it does not mean "only". )
Solve all the equations using an elimination process. Fill in the numbers in the Venn diagram.
