The notecard and study skills assignment due in class
September 10, 2009.
1) Notecard assignment: I will give you
a 4 x 6 notecard in class. I want you to fill the card out with the
following information.
- Your full printed name, your course and section
- What you like to be called
- Your email
- Your phone number
- Your signature
- Your major
- How much time you expect to devote to this course each week outside of lecture
- Your expected course grade
- The names and email addresses and/or phone numbers of 3 other
students in our course. Keep a copy of these for yourself in case
you miss class.
- Tell me about something you have accomplished, that you had to work for,
that you are proud of. I enjoy reading these. I also want you to
think about this answer if you are struggling in my class -- remember, you did this, no math problem is going to hold you back!
- Either on the front or on the back of the notecard, not covering
the rest of the material you provided on it, securely (no paperclips)
attach a small photograph of yourself. If you are not willing to sacrifice a
photograph, you may photocopy the picture on your student ID.
This assignment will count as a homework grade. To get full credit
for your notecard you must
- Use a 4x6 card (I'll give you one in class).
- Make a response for each of the items listed above
- Securely attach your photograph to the notecard (no loose photos, no
paperclips)
- Make sure the photo is small enough to fit within the edges of
the notecard and is not covering any of your responses to the other items.
2) Study Skills Assignment: Read my essay on
Success at Math, look over your first day
handout and the website I have created for the course.
- Do you know what you need to do if you are sick and must miss a
quiz or exam?
- Do you know how to get extra help?
- Do you know what is expected of you?
- Do you know how to use
Webassign?
If you have any feedback for me on the course so far, I would be
glad to receive it. Please come talk to me or send me an email!
