Reading Assignments and Due Dates
for Jean Marie Linhart's
Math 308 Summer 2011
Learing how to obtain information from a book or other written
source, even when some of the material is over your head is an
important skill to lear. Your reading assignments and the questions
associated with them are to help you master this skill.
Outlining will also help you master the
skill of obtaining information from written sources!
You should expect to spend about 45 minutes on the reading
assignment and filling out the associated question sheet. These
sheets will be counted as a part of your course grade.
- Section 1.1 and 1.2 worksheet will be
collected July 7, 2011, at the beginning of class.
- Read and practice the Integrals
Worksheet for July 7, 2011 class.
- Read section 1.4 before our July 7, 2011 class.
- Read the Method of integrating
factors supplement then read section 2.1 of your textbook,
fill out the worksheet and bring this to
class on Friday, July 8, 2011.

Bring the worksheet to class on Monday, July 11, 2011. This may
take a little extra time; this is not an easy section.
- Reread 2.4 and go over the worksheet for it again. This
is difficult and important material; make this one good. It
will be handed in on Tuesday, July 12, 2011.
- Read section 2.3 of your textbook for Tuesday, July 12,
2011. You will not be required to hand anything in from this
sections on this day, but I suggest making an
outline. Start reading section 2.5,
concentrate on the parts indicated and asked about
in this worksheet on section 2.5.
- You will hand in the worksheet for section
2.5 and make an outline of section
2.6 to hand in on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. At the end of the
outline, please answer 1) What do you think you understand well from
this section? 2) What questions do you have?
- Something from 2.5 or 2.6 or both will be handed in
on Thursday, July 14, 2011. Meanwhile, start reading 3.1. I
suggest making an outline but I will not
collect it.
- Read 3.2 for Friday, July 15, 2011. Once again, I suggest
making an outline. If this is collected,
it will be on Monday.
- Read 3.3 for Monday, July 18, 2011, and make an
outline. Bring it with to class.
- Read 3.4 for Tuesday, July 19, 2011 and make an
outline. Bring it with to class. Start
reading and outlining 3.6.
- Bring your outlines for 3.4 and 3.6 to class on
Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
- With what time we have left this week, we will look at numerical
solutions to ODE (section 1.3, 2.8) and how to get these with Matlab.
There may be a worksheet on this due Thursday, July 21, 2011
- I hope to spend ~1/2 our class period on Thursday, July 21,
2011 answering whatever questions you have about the material
on the exam. I will not be able to make a formal exam review; use
your homework, quizzes and suggested homework for a guide as to
what your exam will look like.
