HOMEWORK RULES
These rules are designed to make the grading and handling of papers easier on the grader and on myself.
- Do not turn in paper that is torn out of a spiral notebook.
The rough edges make the stack of papers difficult to stack. If you take off the rough edges before you turn in the homework then paper from a spiral is ok.
- Write your name, section, and row number at the top of the paper.
Please don't include your social security number or your UIN on any papers.
- If your homework takes more than one page, then staple the papers together in the upper left corner.
Please don't fold corners since this doesn't always keep your papers together.
- Do not work on the back of the paper. Any work on the back will not be graded.
- Be neat and legible.
Answers that are unreadable will be counted as incorrect. This will also happen on exams.
If you name is unreadable/incomplete, then you will have to talk to me about recording your grade.
Frequently Asked Homework Questions
If you have other questions, send them to me thru e-mail.
- Do the homework problem have to be printed out and turned in with the answers? You do not have to turn in the questions with the homework. Some students find that this is a good way to keep everything organized.
- Do I have to write down the question(s) on the homework papers? You don't have to handwrite the question. It just takes up a lot of time.
- Can I work the problems on the printout of the homework problems? This falls under the neat and legible requirement of the homework rules. If there is not enough room, then the answer is no. It is not nice to start the problem in one location and then expect the grader to search for where you completed the problem.
- Can I work the homework in pen? Yes. Using a pen or pencil for this course is up to you. The only preference is that red is reserved for grading.
- Do I have to box the answers? This is not required. However, using a method to indicate the answer is just being nice to the grader and to myself. It does speed up the grading and makes our life a bit easier. Some students will use highlighters to make answers easier to find. This is not expected on exams since there is a time limit on exams.
