Qualifiers like "only part a" apply to the whole, comma separated list before them, but do not apply across a semicolon.

Homework questions marked with an asterisk (*) are meant for those of you who need an extra challenge; they are not required to pass the exams. Nevertheless, they are highly recommended for mathematics majors.
