Title: Characterizing positive topological entropy

Abstract: Inspired by work of Glasner and Weiss, Hanfeng Li and I have been pursuing a functional-analytic approach to the study of certain phenomena in topological dynamics. In this talk I will discuss how some ideas from the local theory of Banach spaces can be used to obtain a simple characterization of positive entropy.
