* Note: Credit is NOT allowed for more than one of the following:
Math 131, 142, 151, 171.
Text: Calculus, Applications and Technology, 2nd Edition, by Edmond C. Tomastik, Saunders College Publishing, 1996.
Time & Location of classes: Section 518: MWF 11:30-12:20 in HECC 203
Calculator Policy: This course requires that you have a TI-83 graphing calculator. It will be allowed on all of my quizzes and exams. You may choose to use a TI-82 or even 85, but keep in mind that I am teaching to the 83 and they are all slightly different. If you use a calculator other than the 83, you are doing so at your own risk!
Homework: Homework will be assigned for each section we cover, but WILL NOT BE COLLECTED. It is imperative that you keep up and do the assigned problems, as this will be the basis for quiz and test material. Refer to the "Homework Problems" link (found on my web page) for all assignments and please ask questions about problems you do not understand. Visit me in my office if there isn't class time for your questions!
Quizzes: I will give 11 quizzes throughout the course, dropping your lowest score at the end. Most of these quizzes will be announced a couple of days before they are given and will be administered during the last 15 minutes of class. To do well on the quizzes, keep up with your homework from day to day and pay attention in class. The quiz average will count as 150/600 points of your final grade.
Exams: There will be three in-class exams and a comprehensive final. Each regular exam will count as 100 points and the final exam is worth 150 points (25% of final grade). No make up exams will be given without a University approved excused absence (illness verified by doctor's note, death in family, school-related trip, or circumstances beyond your control - with proof). If you have an excused absence for an exam, you should contact me as soon as possible to show me your excuse (preferably within one week). You can then either take a make up exam (different from the original), or I will give you the option of letting your final exam grade count for the missed test.

Help Sessions/Reviews: The times and dates for Math 142 Help Sessions will be announced by the second week of classes. Help Sessions are opportunities for you to ask TA's individual questions during open hours. Check here for the Math 142 Week In Review Schedule. The WIR is conducted by a 142 lecturer and is a summary of the previous week's lectures for all 142 classes, followed by an opportunity to ask questions. During exam weeks (weeks 5, 9 and 13), the WIR will be an exam review session to prepare 142 students for the upcoming test by going over sample questions which are posted on the 142 homepage.
Tentative Schedule: See Weekly Schedule Posted on Web
MAKE-UP POLICY: Make-ups for missed quizzes and exams will only be allowed for a university approved excuse in writing. Wherever possible, students should inform the instructor before an exam or quiz is missed. Consistent with University Student Rules , students are required to notify an instructor by the end of the next working day after missing an exam or quiz. Otherwise, they forfeit their rights to a make-up.
SCHOLASTIC DISHONESTY: Copying work done by others, either in-class or out of class, is an act of scholastic dishonesty and will be prosecuted to the full extent allowed by University policy. Collaboration on assignments, either in-class or out-of-class, is forbidden unless permission to do so is granted by your instructor. For more information on university policies regarding scholastic dishonesty, see University Student Rules .
