Capture/Recapture
There are many statistical methods for using data gathered from
a sample to draw inferences about an entire population. This project
will give you an opportunity to learn about one particular method that
is used in wildlife management.
Part 1 .
Read pages 66-72 in Exploring Surveys and Information from
Samples (see instructor for a copy of this)
and work through the associated problems. Understand
it well enough to explain it to the class.
find out whether or not this method is used in practice: talk to some in
the Wildlife and Fisheries department, or check out appropriate
journals and magazines.
Part II .
Design a calculator or maple lap to teach a student this particular
method.
Part III .
Give a 15 minute presentation.
