Project #2
Gene Simulation
What is a simulation?
Why are simulations useful?
What are the basic steps in the process of solving a problem using
a simulation? The objective for this projects is to learn, in general,
about simmulations and their use, and then applay that knowledge to
a problem in genetics.
Part I.
How can we model the way in which genes combine to produce inherited
traits?
If you choose this problem, possible areas for research could be:
- Mendel and his experminents
- How has the field of genetics grown from Mendel's own time
to today?
- What are the most important questions geneticists of today
are studying?
Part II.
Choose one of the following:
- Write a program (for the TI-82 or for Maple)
which simulates the tossing of two coins (that in turn is a
model for the combination of genes to produce inherited traits
- Pretend you are Mendel and develop a web page that describes your
research.
Part III .
Give a 15 minute presentation.
