Course Title: Linear Algebra
Course Description: Introductory course in linear algegra covering abstract ideas of vector space and linear transformation as well as models and applications of these concepts, such as systems of linear equations, matrices and determinants.
Computer Algebra Systems, such as Maple and Matlab,
are an important part of understanding and solving linear systems.
I will be posting solutions sets for the homework problems in Maple and/or Matlab (whenever possible). In addition, I will also be giving out several extra credit assignments (based on either Maple or Matlab).
Prerequisites: MATH 152
Text: Linear Algebra with Applications by Leon, 7e-th edition, Prentice Hall
Time & Location of classes: TR 9:35-10:50 BLOC 160, TR 11:10-12:25 BLOC 117
Homework: Homework problems will be assigned for each section, according to the following syllabus. It is imperative that you keep up and do the assigned problems, as these problems will be the basis for both the quiz and test material.
Quizzes: There will be a quiz once each week, based on the preceding week's material. Each quiz will count approximately 15 points, for a total of 150 points, or 25% of the final grade.
Quizzes will be on Tuesday of each week, except if there is an exam that week. If 11 Quizzes are given, I will take the best 10.
Exams: There will be three in-class exams and a comprehensive final.
Each regular exam will count as 100 points and the final exam is worth 150 points (25% of final grade). No make up exams will be given without a University approved excused absence (illness verified by doctor's note, death in family, school-related trip, or circumstances beyond your control - with proof). If you have an excused absence for an exam, you should contact me as soon as possible to show me your excuse (preferably within one week). You can then either take a make up exam (different from the original), or I will give you the option of letting your final exam grade count for the missed test.

MAKE-UP POLICY: Make-ups for missed quizzes and exams will only be allowed for a university approved excuse in writing. Wherever possible, students should inform the instructor before an exam or quiz is missed. Consistent with University Student Rules , students are required to notify an instructor by the end of the next working day after missing an exam or quiz. Otherwise, they forfeit their rights to a make-up.
SCHOLASTIC DISHONESTY: Copying work done by others, either in-class or out of class, is an act of scholastic dishonesty and will be prosecuted to the full extent allowed by University policy. Collaboration on assignments, either in-class or out-of-class, is forbidden unless permission to do so is granted by your instructor. For more information on university policies regarding scholastic dishonesty, see University Student Rules .
COPYRIGHT POLICY: All printed materials disseminated in class or on the web are protected by Copyright laws. One xerox copy (or download from the web) is allowed for personal use. Multiple copies or sale of any of these materials is strictly prohibited.
INTERNETIQUETTE: When addressing a fellow student or the professor, politeness and good manners must be observed. Rude or immature behavior will not be accepted and will affect your final grade. This includes the use of improper language but also any abuse of the available online features, such as incessant posting or emailing. See Rule 21 regarding classroom behavior.
AGGIE CODE OF HONOR: "An Aggie does not lie, cheat, or steal or tolerate those who do."
