Course Description:


This is the second semester of a 2-semester course on algebra.  This term we will focus on Modules and Galois Theory.

Textbooks:

The required textbook is Algebra, by T. Hungerford (5th printing or beyond).





Course Syllabus:

The course covers most of chapters 4-5 and additional topics will be covered as time permits.





Exams:

There will be one midterm exam and one final exam. See schedule below.





Homework:

Written homework will be due on a weekly basis.





Prerequisites:

 An undergraduate course in Modern (Abstract) Algebra and M653.





Qualifying Exam:

Grading:


Your final grade will be determined by the total number of points obtained on exams, homework, and quizzes. Out of 500 total points, each component contributes to your grade as follows:

Missed Work:

Making up missed work (including missed exams, quizzes, and homework) will be arranged according to University policies only. You are allowed to discuss homework with others, but your write-ups are expected to be done on your own and in your own words.
