                3rd ed. by Powers.
Prerequisite: Differential Equations, Math 308 or equivalent.

We will have two exams worth 100 points each, quizzes worth 100
points, and a final exam worth one hundred points. Work turned in late
will not be accepted. Your grade for the course will be determined as
follows:   

      A:  360 -- 400;  B: 320 -- 359;  C: 280 -- 319 D: 240 -- 279
            F: 0 -- 239

Week of Topic Jan. 15 Mathematical models of physical problems. Jan. 22 Separation of variables, boundary value problems, linearity. Jan. 29 Orthogonality, Fourier series expansions. Feb. 5 Fourier series expansions. Feb. 12 EXAM Fourier series expansions. Feb. 19 Convergence of Fourier series expansions. Feb. 26 Convergence of Fourier series expansions. March 4 Solutions to boundary value problems. March 11 Spring Break. March 18 Solutions to boundary value problems. March 25 EXAM Fourier series in more than one variable. April 1 Fourier series in more than one variable. April 8 Solutions to boundary value problems. April 15 Sturm-Liouville theorems. April 22 Fourier transform. April 29 Review Final Exam, Tuesday, May 7, from 1:00 to 3:00pm.
